Supras works on social analysis, strategic communication and knowledge management in connection with development cooperation and investment operations in developing and transition economies.
Key sectors covered include: agriculture, coastal zone management, education, environment, fisheries and rangeland management. Key concerns and issues include: biodiversity conservation, capacity building, community-based natural resource management (CBNRM), conflict management, information and communication technologies (ICTs) and development, institutional analysis and reform, legal reform, ICT-based networking, participation, poverty and social impact analysis, social assessment, social protection and stakeholder analysis.
There is a long-standing focus on social and cultural aspects of natural resource management, with foci on Community-Based Natural Resource Management (CBNRM) (through a collaboration with CBNRM Net), property rights and the environment-poverty nexus.
There is presently an emphasis on sub-Saharan Africa (specifically West Africa and Central Africa), Middle East and South Asia.
